A dramatic scene as Tibetan supporters hold up flags and shout and scream "Free Tibet" at the top of their voices.
Photos can provoke such powerful opinions. I'd just like to say that I'm neither in support of or against the whole "free Tibet" argument. I think it's sad that the Olympic Games are being hijacked by political agendas. At the end of the day I'm just a photographer and I like to cover current affairs events in the city I live in. I went to this event and as I was walking around I noticed these people and thought it would make a great photo, however it's in no way reflective of my opinion on the Tibet issue but I hope you do like the photo!
Listen to my audio recording from the London Olympic torch rally.

11 Апрель 2010, 18:50 etjesse Photos can provoke such powerful opinions! Thanks for all your comments. I'd just like to say that I'm neither in support for or against the whole "free Tibet" argument. I think it's sad that the Olympic Games are being hijacked by political agendas. At the end of the day I'm just a photographer and I like to cover current affairs events in the city I live in. I went to this event and as I was walking around I noticed these people and thought it would make a great photo. Evidently, a lot of people think it is a good photo but it's in no way reflective of my opinion on the Tibet issue. It's very easy for someone thousands of miles away to make an ill informed (or partially informed) opinion on global and geo-political issues but I've always found the only real way to have a true opinion on these sort of things is to GO TO the country about which you have an opinion and experience things first hand. Only then can you appreciate the true dynamics of the country or the local region and only then can you truly see the ground reality. To pass judgment whilst sitting in ones own gleaming ivory tower is very easy but whilst we live in our cosy and safe confines, there is a whole different world out there - most probably a world we've never touched, smelt, listened to or experienced. Assumptions can be misconstrued and opinions can be flawed and so my strong belief is that until and unless you've placed yourself squarely in the middle of a situation (all be it in a safe way, I would guess) any opinion is open to fair and legitimate criticism - but it you've genuinely understood the dynamics of a geo-political situation first hand from the people it directly effects, then you have every right to air your arguably more accurate opinion.
12 Апрель 2010, 01:34 xwelhamite I respect the photographer for solely aesthetic view. Never take art for the purpose of politics please, as never take Olympics for the purpose of political dispute. And I also agree that the only way to have a true opinion is to GO TO the country and see what really happens there, instead of just sit there and think that it is fun or I am doing something of integrity for God's sake. You will never know how poor their lives used to be a decade ago, and how poor their lives would be without the economic and social support of Chinese government, because it is the highest plateau of the world and the climate there is severe, so Tibet province does not have modern and reasonable economic approach to help the people there to pursuit better lives. The Chinese government spent billions to build the railway and airport so Tibet can rely more on the other provinces of China to develop its economy. You must feed yourselves and survive before asking high level needs, and the government is just trying to give their people decent lives. Do not talk about human rights all day long, you have to be human before talking about that, and human need food and shelters. Come to Tibet and see if CNNs or BBCs are covering the truth!
