Homegoing commuters at London Bridge, but two years after the picture was taken it was history. I was trying out an Olympus Trip I bought in a charity shop for the UV filter on the front - they told me the camera wasn't working

16 Апрель 2010, 22:01 Pete Hindle Olympus Trip! One of my favourite cameras, I keep mine next to my desk. Sometimes I lean over and take a photo for that feel of a real camera.
17 Апрель 2010, 06:17 Rienk Mebius I totally agree with the note. Don't understand why they abandoned this type of gangway, which was very short and easygoing for the passenger and standard throughout BR trains until Mark III.
18 Апрель 2010, 04:48 Elsie esq. I find nothing wrong with the modern day corridor connections (class 377) indeed I find them brighter and airier than the old gloomy tunnels of the old MK2 stock.BR does seem to be inheriting a vast new family of incompatible couplers though.
18 Апрель 2010, 05:09 seadipper Because the gangway/coupling on mark 1 stock was in compression, it provided inter-vehicular damping. This effect was recognised when new stock was introduced on the East Coast Main Line in 1992, with a different type of coupling/gangway. A modification was then made to restore the damping function. On the new class 377 stock, the ride quality is very sensitive to the type of track and dependent on where you sit; it is fairly OK in the centre of a vehicle but rough over the wheels and on jointed track.
18 Апрель 2010, 15:41 Elsie esq. We live and learn. Thanks for the info. I still think the 377s generally ride better than the old slam door stock. They tried at-your-seat refreshments on those old trains but hot drinks were impossible unless you wanted it all slopped down you. I enjoy hot drinks regularly on the modern trains. Thanks for replying.
19 Апрель 2010, 13:11 Boxley I have to disagree with my brother (Elsie Esq) - the ride on a Mark 1 was superior to their succesors, although not quite as good as the ride on a Mark 3 (which is a longer vehicle of course). When I lived in Kent, I always preferred the 411s - for one thing the seats lined up with the window!

20 Апрель 2010, 17:05 Charles Weeser This is, so good.
20 Апрель 2010, 18:24 Mountainranger74 You need to remember the class 411 was based off mark 1 loco hauled, long distance rolling stock. As a result, the ride was what you would expect on a long distance mark 1 train. Many heritage railways use ex BR mark 1 stock and you can notice the better comfort compared to on modern DMUs and EMUs. But unfortunatly the livery looks tacky and cheap, I thnik a classy cream and brown or cream and maroon or cream & dark green.
