29 Декабрь 2009, 00:00 mundaylaura thats not more london is it?
29 Декабрь 2009, 18:01 Jean-Pierre-Gu More London,city hall?
30 Декабрь 2009, 04:41 Pennyd Hey, how come you don't have an "all sizes" option above this pic? I was going to take a bigger look, and realised not there! Is it something one can remove?
30 Декабрь 2009, 06:42 helen.2006
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Two questions:1. Is mundaylaura a newbie?
2. Did Jean-Pierre Gu
31 Декабрь 2009, 04:44 Yersinia 1. mundaylaura joined 3 days after you, helen... and you joined 2 weeks after me. Are you a newbie? Am I a newbie? You can set who sees "all sizes" in your privacy settings. Maybe you have it set so that only your contacts see "all sizes". I can, but I'm sure I used to have trouble with your pics.
31 Декабрь 2009, 23:38 helen.2006 pennyd is a contact. something funny going on. Can you see it on this pic?
01 Январь 2010, 00:34 Yersinia Yep. I can get large and original sizes. But I just checked, and I can't on your non-GWL pics, so maybe I can only get it because it's in a group that I admin?Flickr is confusing sometimes.
01 Январь 2010, 04:17 Yersinia Further... I can see "all sizes" on your shots in the moviscrolliosis group which I admin, too, so that's how it's working, I think.
01 Январь 2010, 22:00 Yersinia Ooh! Controversy! GWL admins might have an unfair advantage on Helen's shots!
02 Январь 2010, 20:45 helen.2006 But this hasn't happened before, so wot's going on, I say! edit: I put a topic on Flickr forums, and was told the secret's in "who can download your photos", which seems to have changed to "Only me". Very mysterious.
02 Январь 2010, 21:49 Yersinia On your flickr page,in the "you" menu, go to "your account" and then clcik the "privacy and permissions" tab.My first setting isWho can download your photos: Anyone. You can set this to get whatever level of privacy you like, but it seems that yours is set to prevent people seeing large sizes. I don't know if flickr specifically says anywhere that admins of groups which a photo is in can get at the larger sizes, but I know that it affects other things too, like the ease of getting the url for the different sizes.(edit: cross-post, obviously)
03 Январь 2010, 01:19 Yersinia I can see them on your other pics too now.
03 Январь 2010, 21:14 helen.2006 Yes, cross edit. we'll wait to hear from pennyd then!
04 Январь 2010, 14:01 helen.2006
from Flickr forum: That's because an admin of
a group to which a photo is posted has access
to the All Sizes page.
He/she doesn't even need to be a contact of
yours....edit: So yes, Yersinia, admins have an
advantage if posters have "download
by..." limited on a privacy setting.
05 Январь 2010, 03:23 mundaylaura im sorry :( although do keep your hair on, im hardly a pro gwler
05 Январь 2010, 10:00 chalkie There was a time, not so long ago, that there was free space behind this..... Graham
05 Январь 2010, 10:51 helen.2006 Okay, okay, sorry mundaylaura, I'd just been told off on a previous posting when I forgot it was meant to be for newbies, and then I thought newbies were 2007 joiners!
05 Январь 2010, 11:09 Yersinia I guess it's for each poster to define the limits. I define it as "joined in 2007, guessed 3 or fewer", because really, I'm intending it as a leg-up for those who are new, keen, but a bit bewildered by the general difficulty and speed that things move. The one time I left the definition of "newbie" off, it was guessed by someone who'd been here for more than 5 months and was well into double figures for both posts and guesses. I just feel that it defeats the object, and is also discourteous to other established members who have stood aside for the novices, or even offered clues to help them.
05 Январь 2010, 15:11 Pennyd Just for your ref. Helen.2007, can now download all sizes, and very nice too. But dunno where it is tho'.
05 Январь 2010, 21:30 Yersinia Count yourself lucky that you don't have a corrupt government. Under the new flickr admin powers, we could have chosen to create a "moderation queue", so that admins would have seen all the pics before they were added to the pool. We thought about it, to weed out spam, but considered that it would give us unfair advantage.

Congrats on Explore!
Please add your Beautiful Photo to:
Beauty is in the *Eye* of the Beholder!
06 Январь 2010, 22:49 Monkey Magic well that's certainly true. that queueing thing was certainly tempting.
07 Январь 2010, 22:11 Yersinia You're right, John - the rest of the admins were conspiring to remove me from the admin team, so that they could take advantage, but then they realised what you've known for a long time - I'm clairvoyant. It would have been nice to have a way to weed out shots of the Millennium Bridge etc, though.
08 Январь 2010, 06:01 helen.2006 I must say as well I find Explore totally mystifying. Some photos on there have had millions of favourites and zillions of views, while others have 50 views and 1 favourite. Anyone got any idea how the algorithm works?
08 Январь 2010, 22:04 Yersinia Things are penalised for being in >~10 groups, and for being in groups where comments are mandatory, and for using certain tags. You get more points if people click through to the larger sizes, and more points if people view, comment or favorite it whoaren't on your contact list. You get more points for a lot of views in a short time than for the same number of views over a longer period. There also seems to be some correction for the ratio of favorites to views.Having said all that, it still seems to throw up some very random, spurious results.
09 Январь 2010, 14:43 helen.2006 jeez, Yersinia, how do you know all that fascinating stuff? I think I knnew about the short time bit, and that's all.
10 Январь 2010, 04:17 helen.2006 my gawd, I never thought of that. I'll have to change my profile and my logo, quick...OK, it's a done deed. 23,866 views... let's see what happens... maybe I'd better exit the Senior Moments group as well! Explore, explore, can't wait to get into explore!
10 Январь 2010, 08:43 helen.2006 Yes, here's the whole pic: It's currrently had 1,346 views, mainly because, I suspect, I naively put "bathing suit" or "swimsuit" on the tags! But I don't think it ever got into Explore! hmmmm....
10 Январь 2010, 15:32 helen.2006 Yes, here's the whole pic: It's currrently had 1,346 views, mainly because, I suspect, I naively put "bathing suit" or "swimsuit" on the tags! But I don't think it ever got into Explore! hmmmm....Edit: PS I hated that swimsuit! and it was a horrible pea green. buyt my poor old mum had knitted it, and I had no choice...
11 Январь 2010, 03:32 Yersinia ...of course, putting things in GWL works a treat. Over 1 in 5 of my GWL shots has made an appearance. Most of them slide down after a few days, though. My Dragon Cock was interesting. I posted it as a joke, in response to tiny's 3' 10" cock. I wasn't thinking of Explore, but it got loads of comments and views and faves, so I expected it to go in, but it didn't. Then a couple of months later, I was organising my photos, and thought I'd experiment, so I removed "cock" and a few other words from the title and tags, and bingo! Explore!
